we have been doing the same thing:: but have decided to go with tiling for now. now grouting involved. lol. check home depot in your neighborhood they can help, great help there.
I love the look of the concrete destressed flooring,, if the surrounding room fits the look also..( no modern stuff)
But, to me? It reminds me of a furniture showroom, or a factory type establishment.
Although Ceramic tile is not soft & fuzzy,, it still has a ''warmer'' feel to it,, than the concrete.
An option could be to do the concrete if u r on a budget,, then in about 5 years.. add the ceramic. Just the tile for our outdoor living porch/area,,was over 1000.00 / not is not including the installation.
I guess both have thier own pros & cons. Stained concrete would require a little more maintenance & be much more costly to repair in the evens of any cracks.
The decor of the home should really be ur determining factor.
Ceramic installed correctly, over a sufficient sub floor will be less like to crack & much more easily repaired if it does.
Tile today is much more durable than was offered of years past.
Most tiles u will look at today will be either glazed porcelain or a solid body porcelain, both offering the best wear rating available.
However.
Installtion is the key to success.
Good Luck in ur decision :)
Well..if you want to try both..then try the staining the concrete floor first.or if you want a polished concrete floor that is really cool looking.Anyways.if you do not llike that staining that much then you still have the option to do ceramic tile later. The cost of the tile will very depending on the coat of the material..the labor cost wo not change.4.50 to 7.00 a Sq foot...If you have any more questions on this you can email me at wood42ras.com
Either can crack at any given time. I've heard some really good things about the concrete flooring, but depending on the surface showing any cracks that would be visible would be of concern. I love my tile, although it could crack if the floor chose too. If u choose the ceramic tile, make sure & get a good tiler. I helped someone lay this before & it has to be set just right so no air gets under the pieces or it will sound hollow & u will have cracks. It may depend more on the condition of the floor, honestly & then u can decide. If the floor looks good & u want to try it then do it, because later on u can do tile. But u do not want to change ur mind after the tile, but I do not think u would, it is great.
I tried concrete staining in my house and it was easy, but it is very cold! Make sure you get rugs. I tried the stain and in the end I got ceramic tile. It was more expensive, but it will be worth it in the long run.
