there is a long hallway in my house I'd like to have wood flooring. but my contractor says that at the end of the hallway there is a slight incline.he says wood flooring would have to stop there and be replaced with carpet.esthetically l think it would look awful. is what he says true or is there another way to keep it all wood?

Can you place wood flooring on an uneven floor

There will be huge gaps between the boards if the floor is out of level. As a contractor, he would rather put down hardwood, cause he will make more doing that. They may be able to put leveling compound on the floor to level it up. Leveling can be expensive.

How slight is the incline ?
In my old house I had a hallway that went onto the lounge room where they met there was a slight height difference. To overcome the problem I slopped from the hallway which was lower to the loungeroom with paddle pop sticks ( In case u do not know there the stick u get inside ice cream, because I do not know where u live.)
The result was it looked like a nice gently slopping ramp, it work perfectly for 20 years. When a friends husband replaced it & did not slope the gap the timber floor wore unevenly in that one spot.
Hope that helps, if u need more information email me.

YES there is very wrong. I have a floor business to this date. even though I am not as involved in as much as would like to be any more. But here goes: You level out the rest of the floor to meet the incline. If that is too expensive, try reducing the incline, that will probably cost more! Get a really good floor installer ''preferably a CFI member. Certified Flooring Installer and Really good quality product. Yes sir, it can be done.

Hardwood floor installation can be slowed by an uneven subfloor. Before installing hardwood floors, use a straight edge to find the humps and dips in the subfloor. Then, using a floor leveling compound or asphalt shingles, shim the dips so the floor is level.
