Here r some ideas that I found on FindAnyFloor.com besides the obvious being hardwood.
Try cork or bamboo. Both work well in the kitchen when properly cared for. Cork is excellent underfoot when cooking or doing dishes! I love having it in my kitchen.
Vinyl flooring is available in many earth tones including stone, tile & wood patterns.
Many of the travertine natural stone floors will give u the look of a European country floor & is most certainly durable. There r also porcelain tiles that have the country look u prefer
Hi, I think handscraped hardwood floors really add a country feel to a home and a lot of character. There are also a lot of great braided area rugs in warm colors that can add texture and a country feel to a room. Hope this helps.

I was going to answer in a combo of three of the before I even saw them lol. A darker ( but will show more dust) wider hand scraped look ..Hand scraped is a great look but will also''personalize'' ur house so if u need to sell it in a few years think about that..All those types r available in a full 3/4 inch hardwood & the 3/8 engineered hardwood.( Can be glued or stapled) Even in the laminate should u choose that route..The braided area rug is also a good idea if u may move in a few years. All the adeas give u the look u want but have different routes.. GL
Any wood flooring would give you a country look. Knotty pine is nice but quite soft so will scratch and dent easily. Oak or hickory will stand up better.
I like wide plank pine wood flooring for a rustic feel, these floors can have contrasting dowel pin colors as well. I've added a couple of links below of different types. Lumber Liquidators has a good selector with some photos. Hickory, Oak, and most of the handscraped finishes are rustic looking.
Plastic Flooring will save you a lot.. For country feel, just have it designed like dark mahogany colored planks of wood, good thing about plastic is that It feels just like wood.
Wood floor goes well with anything. Wide boards if you can find them, but it also depends on the style of house you're in and what the overall decor is. Do not go too crazy - you can always get a large oval braided rug for the country feel.
