The kitchen and family room are open to each other with no obvious separation.Right now l have linoleum in the room and it needs to be replaced, but l wanna try out a new flooring type.Do you have any suggestions besides the ones below?

Hardwood floors: There is wood paneling on the walls, so this would be too much for the room to handle.
Tile: Too cold.
Carpet: The boys in my house are too messy to have carpet in the kitchen/familyroom.
Linoleum: No.

What would be a good flooring type for the kitchen/familyroom

i would do tile in the kitchen..wood & any kind of wood in a kitchen is just a bad idea because of the water & potential damage that could result.i would separate them & we actually saw a house this year when we were looking for our house.that had cherry wood in the living room & dining room & tile in the kitchen.it was one huge open floor plan..so i think it could be done..split it down the middle.you can always paint wood paneling.and if u dont want any of the four things u have listed..there really isnt anything else to pick from unless u want concrete

I had this put in all over my house and I am very pleased with it. Kids and pets are no problem. Cleaning is a dream. Here is the company.

That all depends on the traffic.
how is ur budget?
~do not put carpet in the kitchen.
~pergo is nice.
~carpet in family room is nice & u could get a carpet stemer to clean it.
~slate?
~heated tiles. if u use tiles in kitchen, put then at a 45 degree angle & it will make the room look bigger.
~mixing & matching is ok.
~vinal?
~steping stones?
~grass/astroterf/sod?
~straw
~concreet
~blacktop (like a street)
~rubberish mats like they have in school gyms?
~metal?
~stainless steel?
~indoor basketball flooring material to match ur decor?
~alternating black & white is out dated.
well.. what ever u use do not put the same flooring in the kitchen as u do in the living/family room.
be bold.
let me know how this works for you.
would like to see pics.

try bamboo flooring. Not only is it durable, but it is not a drain on the enviroment, as bamboo grows quickly. It is a little more expensive than laminate, but not as costly as tiles. Good luck
