l live in a second floor apartment and the one above has wood laminate flooring. Not only is it noisy when walked upon, but it creaks too. It is driving us crazy and the owner has so far done nothing about it. Does anyone know if there are regulations covering the use of this type of flooring in an apartment other than on the ground floor?

Are there regulations regarding wooden flooring in apartments

There r regulations in my apartment building stating that they have to have so much insulation & be a certain thickness.

If the floor is audible to the point of being a nuisance it would be going against the contractual agreement signed when buying the property.

However, i do not know if this is a universal contract outline or one specific to each building.

I suggest that u ask the landlord of ur apartment to show u the contract they signed when purchasing the property, if one exists. Not the deeds, the contract referring to communal living.

Also, try contacting ur local council & see what they say as any attempt to get the issue forceably corrected would need to go through them anyway.

It will take time, so maybe consider ssaving yourself the effort & relocating? One of the beauties of renting instead of buying accommodation.

I doubt if there r regs appertaining to squeaky floors. You could enquire at ur council offices environmental health dept. But I still doubt if they can help. I think is is a disadvantage of apartment living.
The only other possibility, if the place above u is rented, is to approach the landlord as most agreements have a clause which protects neighbours from noise disturbance. Other than that if ur neighbour wo not fit underlay beneath the laminate, u will have to put up with it or move.
