We have inherited an extension which steps down, by about 3-4 inches, from the existing living room, so is in effect a step. We wanna replace the carpet with hard wood flooring, probably laminate. Is this easy to do, given the step, or would it be an opportunity to level the floor with concrete and eradicate the step?

How easy is it to fit hard wood flooring on split level room

I assume the step down is a concrete slab. It can be a bit pricey to level depending on the size of the area to be raised. You have to take into account all electrical wiring, sump & drainage. It would definitely be a good time to level if that is within ur budget & it is possible. It is not necessary though. You can treat the step as a step & install a stair nosing at the top of the step & face the step with the laminate using construction adhesive. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
